Deep Dive: The League Mode
Until now, a number sorted you. A Skill Rating that started every season at 1500, drifted a little with every board, and eventually ranked you Division 1. It was measurable, but it was not a competition. Who exactly were you playing against?
From Season 2 there is an answer, and a new one every day. The League puts seven opponents in front of you across seven matchdays, one per day, and at the end of the week there is a table. No rating, no invisible formula. Points, goal difference, promotion and relegation. The format football has used for a hundred years, because it works.
The daily duel
- Every day you face an opponent from your league. Your Daily Matchplan board goes up against theirs. The higher board score, the one you were already playing for, wins.
- A win is worth three points, a draw one, a defeat none.
- The result sits right at the top of the League: you and your opponent stacked, both scores beside them, the winner highlighted. Directly below it the table, where you see what it changed.
The week
- A league holds up to eight players. When it is full, you play every one of them exactly once from Monday to Sunday: seven matchdays, seven duels, no repeats. When it is not full yet, you have the open days off until somebody moves in.
- The fixture list is set before the week starts. Who plays whom, and when, you can see from the beginning. Only one thing still gets added: if somebody joins mid-week, they take a free seat, and a rest day turns into a duel after all.
- Every table starts at zero on Monday. Last week does not carry into this week's standings.
The table
- Ranked by points, then goal difference, then points scored.
- Scored is your own board total across the seven duels. Conceded is what your opponents scored on those days. A narrow win counts the same as a comfortable one, but the difference decides it when things get tight at either end.
- Promotion and relegation zones are marked in colour. You do not need to memorise a rule or look up your tier. The table shows you where you stand. Relegation only happens out of a full league: one that is still filling up sends nobody down.
Not turning up costs
- If your opponent locks in no board, you win by walkover with your real score to nil. Your score counts in full, and they concede it.
- If you lock in nothing and they do, you lose nil to their score.
- If neither of you turns up, it is nil to nil and no points for either. That is deliberately not a draw. Not turning up always costs.
Five tiers
Above the individual leagues sits a pyramid. Depending on how many of you are playing, a tier holds several leagues of up to eight players, and your tier is the part you keep. From the bottom up: Chrome League, Steel League, Carbon League, Titan League and Obsidian League, the championship.
Up and down
- In Chrome, Steel, Carbon and Titan the champion of every league goes up. In Steel, Carbon, Titan and Obsidian the bottom two go down. Nobody is relegated out of Chrome, the floor of the pyramid. The relegation zone in Steel applies from the week of 17 August.
- The maths balances at every tier: what goes down makes room for what comes up. While the pyramid is still growing, we settle the remainder on Monday.
- Obsidian is the deliberate exception to the Monday reshuffle. Only the two relegated swap for the two promoted, so up to six of the eight stay. Establish yourself at the top and you get real rivals instead of a new set of strangers every week.
Reshuffled every Monday
- On Monday the leagues inside each tier are reshuffled. You stay where you played your way to, but your seven opponents are new.
- Anyone who opened the app at least once the week before is in. For rewards and promotion you still need a board.
- Anyone who was drawn and stops playing stays in the draw and falls through the table.
Your first tier
- At the start on 10 August you are seeded once, using your average score per Daily Matchplan board from Season 1.
- Anyone with fewer than seven Season 1 boards, so less than a full week, started in Steel. Anyone joining now starts at the floor of the pyramid, currently the Chrome League. After that, only how you play decides.
- Your tier also survives the move from Season 2 to Season 3. There is no monthly reset and no return to the start. Like real football, you begin where you finished.
If you take a break
- You only lose a tier in a table. There is no silent drop.
- Inside a running week it is not a special case: no boards means a walkover defeat on every matchday, last place and, in a full league, relegation through the zone.
- Stay away after that and you are still drawn, as long as you have a tier left to lose. Your walkover defeats sit in the table for everyone to see, and you fall through the relegation zone week after week, down to the Chrome League. Only at the floor does the league take you out of the draw, and your tier stays where it is.
- You come back by opening the app. That is enough, and it takes effect immediately: you get a free seat in a league of your tier during the running week. If today's Daily is still open, your first duel is today, otherwise tomorrow. No deadlines, no applications, no waiting for Monday.
The rewards
Rewards go out on Monday for the week that just finished. Your first league week runs from 10 to 16 August, so the first payout follows on Monday 17 August.
There are packs and Season XP, no Store Points. The condition is at least one board locked in during the week: turn up never and no reward goes out. Everyone who plays at least once also gets 100 XP.

The structure is settled: every one of the eight places carries its own value, and nobody walks away with nothing. The gap from bottom to top is set on purpose, from the lowest place in Chrome to the champion in Obsidian it is a good eight times over. We will look at the exact amounts again after the first few weeks.
The champion's choice
In Obsidian and Titan the champion is not handed a prize, they pick one. Three options at roughly the same value, reaching it in different ways.
Champion in Obsidian
- Option 1: 2x Pro Pack
- Option 2: 1x Special Pack and 1x Premium Pack
- Option 3: 4x Premium Pack
Champion in Titan
- Option 1: 1x Pro Pack
- Option 2: 1x Special Pack
- Option 3: 2x Premium Pack
What the League leaves alone
- The League scores the Daily Matchplan only. One board a day, seven a week.
- The Weekly Matchplan keeps its own Weekly Rewards, unchanged.
- Limited-Time Events keep their own rewards, unchanged.
- Skill Rating and divisions are gone entirely. Your final Division Rewards were credited automatically, so there was nothing to claim.
Season 2: Prove It
- Season 1 ends on 10 August, Season 2 opens the same morning and runs 28 days, through to 7 September.
- A new Season Pass with 40 levels.
Where this goes
The pyramid grows with you. The more of you play regularly, the more tiers it gets and the more cleanly it separates. It only folds in or fans out once a threshold has held for two weeks, so the structure does not flicker week to week.
On Monday 10 August the first leagues are set. After that, every day has an opponent and every week has a table. See you there.
